Washington Poet Sharon Bryan to Give Reading at UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC – Washington poet and visiting professor Sharon Bryan will read from her works at 8 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, in Cameron Hall Auditorium, at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. A reception and book signing will follow. The university’s Creative Writing Department is sponsoring this free, public event.Bryan, who lives in Port Townsend, Wash., is the author of three volumes of poetry including Flying Blind. Her newest anthology Planet on the Table: Poets on the Reading Life is scheduled for release in 2003 by Sarabande Books. She is currently a visiting faculty member at UNCW and has served as distinguished-writer-in-residence at Wichita State University and the University of Missouri at St. Louis. She was also poet-in-residence at The Frost Place in 1993.
Bryan’s work has appeared in American Poetry Review, The Atlantic Monthly, Georgia Review, Ploughshares, Paris Review and The Nation. She is a recipient of two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships in Poetry and a Senior Fellowship with the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center. Her work earned first prize from the Academy of American Poets and the Discovery Award from The Nation.
