WILMINGTON, NC – As part of the national celebration of Love Your Body Day, UNCW will host readings from Body Outlaws at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16, in the University Union, Room 100. This free, public event is sponsored by the UNCW Women’s Resource Center.

Body Outlaws: Young Women Write About Body Image and Identity is a collection of stories written by women who have chosen to ignore, subvert or redefine the dominant standard of beauty in order to feel at home in their bodies, said Dr. Elizabeth “Betsy” Ervin, director of the Women’s Resource Center. Copies of the book will be on sale following the reading.

Love Your Body Day was launched in 1998 by the National Organization for Women. Other events planned for the celebration include chair massages and a “Write Your Body a Love Letter” table in the University Union. A screening and discussion of the documentary Body Image: The Quest for Perfection is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15 in the University Union, Room 105.

Individuals who attend the evening events will receive a free class at Seaside Yoga and can register to win a free yoga package or one-hour massage.

UNCW’s Women’s Resource Center administers the women’s studies minor and coordinates programming related to women.
