WILMINGTON, NC – The UNCW Big Band and Jazz Combos will

present their final concert of the fall semester at 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 6, in

Kenan Auditorium.

The Big Band, under the direction of Frank Bongiorno, will

perform a variety of music made famous by the bands of

Thad Jones, Buddy Rich and Rob McConnell. During the

North Carolina Music Educators convention in

Winston-Salem Nov. 10-12, the UNCW Big Band performed in the

conference’s annual “Jazz on Terrace” program.

The Jazz Combos, directed by Jerald Shynett, will open the

concert with jazz standards as well as original compositions. UNCW’s

Jazz Combo I is featured in the second annual student’s edition of

JAZZIZ on Disc: The College Years II, a recording of 15 students or

groups from universities across the nation.

Admission to the Dec. 6 concert is $5; $2.50 for UNCW faculty and staff,

senior citizens and children under 12; and free to UNCW students with

an ID. Tickets will be on sale on the night of the concert.
