Where - UNCW Wagoner Hall, Madeline Suite

Who - North Carolina Tax & Budget Center staff, possible legislative representative and local perspectives

What - Learn about how the latest state budget crisis developed and how these changes in governmental support will affect the quality of life in our community. What are some of the proposals for meeting the shortfall and how likely/unlikely are they to receive consideration by lawmakers? What does this mean for the Cape Fear Region?

The Tax and Budget "Road Show" is co-sponsored by the Cape Fear Area United Way and UNC Wilmington and will be held Friday, Nov. 22, from 9 a.m. to noon, at UNC Wilmington. The meeting is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is encouraged. To register, please call 798-3900 by Friday, Nov. 15, 2002.

This forum will help clarify the impact of reductions and changes in governmental funding in areas such as health, welfare, social services, education and economic development. The information will be geared towards non-profit organizations, local elected officials, governmental representatives and all individuals interested in the issues that affect the health and vitality of our community. It is hoped that the forum will initiate discussion within the local community about how to deal with these changes.

The North Carolina Budget and Tax Center is a non-profit, nonpartisan, organization that provides timely, accessible, and credible analysis of state and local budget and tax issues, with a special focus on the impact of state fiscal policy on low- and moderate-income North Carolinians.
