WILMINGTON, NC -- Scott Joyner is the new director of development for the Watson School of Education and Office of International Programs at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. A native North Carolinian, Joyner joins UNCW from Rice University in Houston, Texas, where he served as director of development for athletics.

During his two-year tenure at Rice, Joyner helped raise more than $2.2 million in athletic endowment support. From 1997 to 2000, Joyner worked at Elon University where he solicited money for the university’s Rhodes Stadium and Belk Library.

Excited to be in Wilmington, Joyner said his focus is on scholarship support and the North Carolina Teachers Legacy Hall, which is part of the new building for the Watson School of Education.

“The legacy hall will recognize the teaching profession and honor North Carolina educators,” said Joyner. “To recruit the best students to be teachers and to provide more opportunities for study abroad, UNCW must raise private funds.”

A graduate of NC State University, Joyner earned a master’s degree in athletic administration from Georgia State University. His wife, Barbara, is an academic adviser for Watson School of Education.
