Valentine’s Bachelor Auction to Raise Funds for UNCW Habitat House
Friday, January 31, 2003
Wilmington – A group of young UNCW guys will “sell” themselves to benefit the university’s chapter of Habitat for Humanity. This Valentine’s Bachelor Auction will be held from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Rhino Club, 125 Market Street. Cover charge will be $5.All proceeds from the cover charge and auction will support the UNCW Habitat for Humanity goal, which is to raise $50,000 to sponsor a home for a family whose income is 25 to 50 percent below the poverty level. The Rhino Club is providing free use of its facilities. Once fund-raising efforts are complete, student members will build the home. The anticipated construction start date is spring 2003.
The Valentine’s Bachelor Auction will feature UNCW male students between the ages of 18 and 23. Bachelors will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Winners receive the bachelors’ “services” for the rest of the evening. Bidders will also receive a gift certificate from a local restaurant for their use with or without the bachelor. UNCW Habitat chapter president Caroline Nunley board member John Wright organized the event.
“This is a great opportunity for women to be able to go out have fun with other women while supporting a really great cause,” said Nunley.
UNCW students and employees who are interested in helping on-site to build a Habitat House, should e-mail UNCWHabitat@uncwil.edu. Volunteer opportunities are available Saturdays in February from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participation is limited to 10-25 volunteers per build; e-mail LCB3155@uncwil.edu to participate.
