Tuesday, February 25, 2003

WILMINGTON, NC – Stephanie Fitzgerald is the new director of development for the Division of Student Affairs and School of Nursing at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She joins the university from Nashville, Tenn., where she was finance director for the U.S. Senate campaign of Lamar Alexander.

Fitzgerald said she welcomes the opportunity to utilize her extensive fund-raising background at UNCW.

“This is an exciting time for UNCW,” said Fitzgerald. “The university is experiencing tremendous growth, and at the same time state appropriations are declining. Increasing the amount of private funding is becoming more important for UNCW to continue to provide the top quality education and collegiate experiences that our students deserve.”

Prior to joining UNCW, Fitzgerald served as a protocol officer and liaison to the International Olympic Committee for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. As a consultant with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from 1997 to 2001, she assisted the chamber to plan and execute a major funding program with Fortune 500 companies that today raises more than $100 million a year.

Fitzgerald is a 1991 graduate of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va., where she earned a bachelor’s degree in political science.
