1. Student-led debate about War in Iraq. 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5, King Hall Auditorium, Moderator: Dr. Remonda Kleinberg, UNCW associate professor of political science.
2. Col. Douglas P. Smith, operations officer with the United States Special Operations Command will speak on Afghanistan at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 6, Morton Hall, Bryan Auditorium, as part of the Great Decisions seminar series, sponsored by the UNCW Department of Political Science. Morton Hall.
Smith served on a Joint Interagency Task Force attending to national security policy and crisis. He made presentations to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Secretary of Defense, and the President of the United States. Smith served both militarily and diplomatically for over 5 months in Afghanistan starting in September 2001.
3. Consul Aviv Ezra of Israel will speak to the university and community at 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 10, in the Warwick Center Ballroom.
Following his service as an officer in the Israel Defense Forces and upon completion of his formal education, Consul Ezra joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served as a Cadet until 2000.
Consul Ezra was in charge of the Economic and Trade Affairs Division at the Embassy of Israel in Cairo, Egypt until July 2002. Mr. Ezra has recently been appointed to the Consulate of Israel in Atlanta as the State of Israel's second highest-ranking diplomat to the southeastern U.S.
His speech is part of the UNCW intercultural festival, and is co- sponsored by the Department of Political Science.
