WILMINGTON, NC – UNCW will conduct its fourth annual “Take Back the Night” march and rally at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, on the University Commons.

The march, which will be followed by a rally and candlelight vigil, is designed to educate the university and greater Wilmington community about the realities of violence committed against women, said Kate Temoney, assistant dean of students.

The rally will include speeches, readings and music by local band Bellafea as well as free food provided by Domino’s Pizza. In addition, the exhibits Clothesline Project and Silent Witness will be displayed. Clothesline Project is a collection of T-shirts with messages written by rape survivors. Silent Witness is a traveling memorial featuring life-sized red figures in honor of women and children from across the state who were victims of domestic violence.

The university’s A-Team, a peer-education group dedicated to ending sexual violence, is sponsoring the events. In case of rain, the march and rally will be held in Cameron Hall Auditorium.
