Monday, April 07, 2003

WILMINGTON – With all the procurement opportunities UNCW’s growth is providing, a workshop and networking opportunity called DOING BUSINESS WITH UNCW will be offered from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside.

“With the anticipated receipt of $109 million in Higher Education Facilities Act bond money and approximately $47 million in other construction funds, UNCW is actively engaged in campus renovation and building,” said Ed Davis, the university’s associate vice chancellor for facilities. “To address plans for upcoming projects, construction managers will be on site to discuss specific opportunities.”

Mary E. Forsythe, director of UNCW’s Purchasing Department added, “We will discuss other procurement opportunities as well. Through improved communication, UNCW is working to better inform the community, and involve minorities as well as small businesses that may not be so comfortable with our processes.”

The workshop will offer an overview of the university’s procurement programs and state law that affects purchasing construction and other commodities. Vendor registration on the state’s Interactive Purchasing System (IPS) and the state’s site for Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) will be encouraged and assistance will be given as needed.

Workshop pre-registration is strongly encouraged by Wednesday, April 8, to get a count for the free breakfast and to provide adequate space. Call (910) 962-3158 to register.
