Wilmington, NC -- The Georgia Senate honored Georgia College & State University President Rosemary DePaolo this morning with a resolution that recognized her achievements at the university and congratulated her on being selected as chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

The resolution said that DePaolo "will bring to UNC Wilmington a proven record of leadership in administration, a passionate commitment to excellence in undergraduate education, and an understanding of the special relationship between public institutions and the regions they serve."

DePaolo was cited for leading GC&SU through a period of unprecedented changes that included the adoption of a new mission as Georgia's public liberal arts university, and steering the course for GC&SU's rise in stature and academic excellence.

"It is appropriate to recognize her extraordinary achievements and wish her the best in her new position as chancellor of UNC Wilmington," the resolution reads.

DePaolo announced March 21 that she had accepted the position at UNC Wilmington effective July, 2003. She has been president of GC&SU since 1997. Before coming to GC&SU she was dean of the College of Arts & Sciences at Western Carolina University. She was the ninth and first female president of Georgia College & State University. DePaolo will replace Chancellor James R. Leutze who is retiring after a distinguished 13-year career leading UNC Wilmington.
