UNCW Freshmen Teaching Fellows and Williston Sixth Grade Pen Pal Campus Tour

Thursday, April 10, 2003

Starting fall semester 2002, 30 freshmen in the UNCW Watson School of Education North Carolina Teaching Fellows program started a pilot Pen Pal project, corresponding with sixth-graders at Williston Middle School of Math, Science and Technology.. During spring semester, 2003, the UNCW students started tutoring their Williston pen pals. Friday, April 11, they will all come together for a campus tour, lunch, and a meeting with UNCW men’s and women’s basketball staff.

The purpose of this pilot project is for UNCW teachers in training to develop on-going relationships with the Williston students that will inspire the middle-grade students to consider college as a viable option and perhaps even become teachers..

We thought you might be interested in covering their visit to campus. The schedule is below. For more information, contact Katrina Aldrich at 962-4001.
