UNCW Vice Chancellor Honored by Lineberger Center

Wilmington, NC – Mary Gornto, vice chancellor for university advancement at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, was honored by the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center with its Outstanding Service Award. The honor was presented at the center’s spring 2003 Board of Visitors meeting in Chapel Hill.

Gornto, who served two terms as chairman of the Board of Visitors from 2000-2003, was recognized for “superior leadership, service and loyal support”.

Gornto and her husband, Dean, have been members of the center’s Board of Visitors since 1994.

The center is nationally recognized for its research excellence and multidisciplinary programs. Its mission includes research, treatment, training and prevention. It is the only publicly assisted comprehensive cancer center serving the people of North Carolina.
