North Carolina Astronaut Curtis Brown to Speak at UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC -- Astronaut Curtis Brown will speak about his experience with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 8, in Dobo Hall, Room 134. This free event, sponsored by the Master of Public Administration Program, is in conjunction with Public Service Recognition Week.Brown, a native of Elizabethtown, is a retired U.S. Air Force lieutenant colonel who is now a commercial pilot. He received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Air Force Academy in 1978. In 1987, Brown was selected as an astronaut candidate. After completing a one-year training and evaluation program, he qualified for flight assignment as a pilot. A veteran of six space flights, Brown has logged more than 1,300 hours in space. He served as pilot on shuttle missions in 1992, 1994 and 1996 and was spacecraft commander on missions in 1997, 1998, and 1999.
