Memo to area media:



You are cordially invited to join Congressman Mike McIntyre (D-NC, 7th District) for a press opportunity and tour of the UNC Wilmington Mariculture Facility at Wrightsville Beach at 4 p.m., Monday, May 5, 2003.

At the event, Congressman McIntyre will officially recognize two programs at UNCW that received funding due to his leadership. Through his efforts, the UNCW Mariculture Program received $360,000 to continue research on marine species such as Summer and Southern flounder and Black seabass. UNCW also received $500,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to create a pilot program to help universities protect their students, infrastructure and research facilities from natural disasters such as flooding, hurricanes and earthquakes.

Both programs will be discussed, and Congressman McIntyre and media will take a tour of the Wrightsville Beach facility.

To reach the UNCW Wrightsville Beach Mariculture Facility, cross the drawbridge onto Wrightsville Beach, then go left at the ‘Welcome to Wrightsville Beach’ sign, then take the first right toward the fire station then go left into the UNCW facility.
