UNCW Arts in Action Performance Series Single-event Tickets on Sale

Wilmington, N.C. — Single event tickets to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Arts in Action Performance Series are now on sale. Individual tickets are $6 for UNCW students and children age 12 and under; $12 for UNCW faculty/staff and seniors; and $18 for all others. For tickets, visit the University Union information center or call the Kenan Auditorium box office at 910/962-3500 or 800/732-3643 outside of the Wilmington area. The box office hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.Scheduled Oct. through April, the series features eight events. All performances are held at 8 p.m. at UNCW’s Kenan Auditorium. • The series opens Oct. 4, with Turtle Island String Quartet’s tribute to Miles Davis, titled “Blue in Green: The Legacy of Miles Davis.”
• Blind Boys of Alabama take center stage on Oct. 18. The soul gospel, two-time Grammy Award winners recently toured with Peter Gabriel.
• Paul Winter Consort performs on Nov. 7 combine jazz with elements from various African, Asian and South American cultures. The performance is co-presented with the UNCW Department of Music.
• The Drama Desk-nominated Umbilical Brothers appear on Jan. 26. Get a first-hand look at this unique collaboration of comic imagination.
• The NC Jazz Festival Preview is Feb. 5. This performance is co-presented with the N.C. Jazz Festival, Inc. and the UNCW Department of Music.
• Part gypsy, part klezmer, Les Yeux Noirs perform on Feb. 11. The string octet draws from Romanian, Hungarian, Russian, Armenian and Yiddish traditions to create music with technical excellence and spontaneity.
• Bruce Wood Dance Company will swing, stomp and waltz onto stage Mar. 26 with dance numbers performed to music that ranges from Ravel’s “Bolero” to Lyle Lovett.
• The series finale is master musician Sam Bush on Apr. 17. The mandolin virtuoso blends styles ranging from gospel to rock, pop to reggae, jazz to country, folk and, of course, bluegrass.

Subscriptions to the series are available until Oct. 4, and offer savings of 20 percent, as well as priority seating for all performances. Season tickets are priced at $29 for UNCW students and children age 12 and under; $58 for UNCW faculty/staff and seniors; and $86 for all others. A smaller ticket package (Choose-Your-Own-Series") option is also available and offers 10 percent savings for ticket purchases to four different events.
