UNCW Welcomes New Freshmen Aug. 16

NOTE TO MEDIA: Traffic will be backed up and difficult on Saturday morning around campus. UNCW University Police have asked that you come into campus from the Rose Avenue entrance (Rose intersects with Wrightsville Avenue), go right onto Walton Drive, and then left into Lot P near the campus apartments. Officers will allow media into Lot P, and then you can walk through the apartments to the area between Belk and Galloway Hall where Chancellor DePaolo will be helping with move-in. Wilmington, N.C. — It’s August and time for a new academic year at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Approximately 1,735 new freshmen are expected to attend UNCW this fall, and some 1,500 will move-in to their residence halls on campus starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 16. The total student body is expected to be around 11,300. Media are invited to cover this exciting time and to also cover the many activities associated with 2003 UNCWelcome. A selection of scheduled highlights are listed below:

Saturday, Aug. 16

8 a.m.–

1 p.m. Move-In 2003: Approximately 1,500 freshmen accompanied by parents and friends will move-in to campus residence halls starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 16. Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo will be one of 1,100 volunteers helping move the students into their new quarters. Best time for photo op with Chancellor DePaolo will be 10 – 11 a.m., between Belk Hall and Galloway Hall (high-rise residence hall across from Brooks Baseball Field.

2 p.m. Welcome Lunch: for parents of African-American students. Hosted by the Office of Admissions and the African American Graduate Association (AAGA).

5 p.m. UNCWelcome Program and Picnic: for freshmen, family, and friends. Dr. DePaolo will welcome students to UNCW.
