California Gubernatorial Candidate Arianna Huffington Will Visit UNCW on October 16

WILMINGTON, NC- Arianna Huffington, a candidate in California’s gubernatorial recall election, will speak on the topic, “The Call to Leadership,” 7 p.m. on Oct.16 at Kenan Auditorium, located on the University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s campus. Originally scheduled to speak on Sept. 22, Huffington rescheduled due to her run for the California governorship. A question and answer session and book signing in Kenan Auditorium lobby will follow the lecture.Huffington has established herself as a distinctive and provocative figure in American politics. She writes a syndicated column for such newspapers as Los Angeles Times, Chicago Sun-Times, Boston Herald and Dallas Morning News exposing what she sees as the corruption of our political system and the bankruptcy of political leadership.
She is the co-founder of The Detroit Project, the national campaign to raise awareness about our reliance on foreign oil. She is a frequent guest on television shows including Larry King Live, Crossfire, Nightline, Oprah and The Today Show, and is co-host of Left, Right & Center, public radio’s political roundtable program.
Huffington is the author of nine books, including: The Fourth Instinct: The Call of the Soul, the political satire Greetings From the Lincoln Bedroom: How to Overthrow the Government, a call for Americans to take back control of their government, and the internationally best-selling biographies Maria Callas and Picasso.
Huffington’s visit launches the Leadership Lecture Series, a Campus Activities and Involvement Center program designed to expose students to speakers who enlighten, challenge, inspire and demonstrate that all people have the ability to lead if they have the desire to make a difference.
