MEMORANDUM

TO: Wilmington Area Media

RE: Media Tour of Kenan House Prior to Renovations

10 a.m. – Noon, Thursday, Sept. 25, 1705 Market St., Wilmington

As you are aware, Kenan House, the 1911-era official residence of the chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, is about to undergo serious repair and renovation. Asbestos mitigation is scheduled to begin around Oct. 1, followed by replacement of 1931 plumbing, electrical system, slate roofing and gutters, and new heating and air conditioning system.

Before construction begins, we would like to invite media to tour the residence from top to bottom, visiting areas previously off limits to anyone except chancellors and their families. Please join us at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 25, for a first-hand look at what is needed to bring this building into compliance with today’s codes and to maintain this magnificent historic structure.

On hand to discuss the renovations will be Ed Davis, associate vice chancellor for facilities, who is overseeing the renovation project, and Janet Seapker, who will advise on the historical appropriateness of renovation activities. Hope to see you there.
