UNCW Community Link Features Recipient of 2003 State Employees' Award of Excellence and Artists in the Garden

Wilmington, NC – Programming for the week of September 22, UNCW Community Link, an interactive, public affairs television show, chats with Sandra Harris, the 2003 recipient of the State Employee’s Award of Excellence and explores the first Art in the Garden Tour.H.E. “Hunter” Thompson, Jr. speaks with Sandra Harris, accounting technician to the director of finance and administration at UNCW, who received the 2003 State Employees’ Award of Excellence, the highest honor a state employee may receive. She works in the UNCW division for public service and continuing studies where she earned the 2002 UNCW Employee of the Year in her division. She is also this year’s YWCA Woman of the year, a DJ at Coast 97.3, an energetic participant in New Hanover Community Action and a Head Start Activist and chair of the Harbor Foundation. When asked about her many roles in the community, she replied, “It started with Head Start and I also take after my mother and father. They are hard working and set up my path.”
This week, Betty Ann Sanders speaks with three ladies involved in the upcoming Art in the Gardens Tour that will take place October 3-5, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guests may visit the eleven gardens on the tour and take pleasure in the art scattered through the grounds. Pauline Purdom, Joan Bar-zeev and Christine Farley, an artist in the event, will discuss the different types of gardens that are up for view and give background on how the tour came together. Of the eleven gardens open, nine are private.
“Many generous homeowners are working feverishly to prepare their gardens,” said Purdom.
