By: Christin Ingold, PR InternWILMINGTON, NC- The short film Conversation with Kafka directed by University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s Renee Vincent, professor in the Art and Theatre Department, has been selected to air on UNC-TV’s North Carolina Visions at 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25. This series spotlights North Carolina filmmakers. Adapted from an early Franz Kafka short story, “Conversation with a Supplicant,” the film is the story of a conflicted young writer and his artistic obsessions with the city of Prague’s unique characteristics.
The film was shot on location in Kafka’s hometown of Prague, Czech Republic, as well as in Wilmington. Vincent bases this film’s success on the collaboration from UNCW, including students, faculty and staff and many professionals and vendors in the Wilmington community. Vincent also received a research reassignment award and a summer research initiative from UNCW’s College of Arts and Sciences to produce the film.
Joe Dunton & Company International Inc. of Wilmington provided the camera equipment at a discounted price and Eastman Kodak Co. donated film while also featuring Vincent’s film in their national magazine, In Camera. Current and former theatre students of UNCW make up the cast of Conversation with Kafka.
Of the 66 works submitted to UNC-TV this year, North Carolina Visions narrowed their choices down to 14 to run in a seven-episode series throughout October and November. This allows North Carolina filmmakers to showcase their work. Series associate producer Nicole Triche says, “UNC-TV is very proud to offer North Carolinians the opportunity to view all of the abundant talent that our state has to offer.”
