UNCW Hosts Faculty Panel Discussion about the Spread of Epidemic Diseases

By: Christin Ingold, PR InternWILMINGTON, NC- The University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s Science Humanities and Society is sponsoring a faculty panel discussion entitled “‘Is Anyone Sitting Here?’: Transportation Systems and the Spread of Epidemic Diseases,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 in UNCW’s Randall Library auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.
The panel will address issues associated with the spread of illness and disease via the world’s transportation systems. From the plagues of the Middle Ages to SARS and viruses on contemporary vacation cruise lines, disease has been one of the things that have been carried across the world as a constant companion of travel, discovery and commerce.
Panelists are William McCarthy and Larry Usilton, history; Midori Albert, anthropology; Robert Argenbright, earth sciences; Carrie Clements, psychology; Oliver Speck, foreign languages and literatures; and Patricia Turrisi, philosophy and religion.
