United Nations Debate at UNCW Focuses on America's Role in the World

WILMINGTON, NC- What is America’s role in the world today? To explore this question more in-depth, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s Political Science and History Departments will host a debate from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 in Bryan Auditorium, Morton Hall, Room 100. The debate is part of "The People Speak: America Debates Its Role in the World," a nationwide event sponsored by the United Nations Foundation to encourage grassroots participation in foreign policy. This event is free and open to the public.Topics for the debate are to include, under what conditions the U.S. should take part in military interventions, should the U.S. use pre-emptive military force to stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction and is America better off working with international institutions or going in alone? There will be a question-and-answer period after debate for audience participation.
Paige Tan, political science, will host the event and Robert Toplin, history, will moderate the debate. Debaters will include members of the International Affairs Association of Department of Political Science at UNCW.
