WILMINGTON, NC – Faculty members from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington will share the stage with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra’s performance at 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1 in UNCW’s Kenan Auditorium.

Faculty members Barry Salwen, piano, and Christofer Ackerman, trumpet, will be featured in the Concerto No. 1 for Piano and Trumpet and Strings by Dimitri Shostakovich. Adding to the evening’s program will be an area premiere of a new work, The Sea of Stones: A Concerto for Guitar and Saxophone, by former faculty member and award-winning composer, David Kechley. Sea of Stones is a reference to the rock garden in the Ryoanji Temple in Japan. Frank Bongiorno, saxophone, and Robert Nathanson, guitar, will be showcased. Johannes Brahm’s Third Symphony concludes the concert.

Conductor Steven Errante will hold an informal pre-concert commentary at 7 p.m. to provide the audience with more information about the evening’s music.

Tickets are $18, $16 for seniors, and $4 for youth under 17, with group rates available. Reserved seating can be purchased through the Kenan Auditorium box office weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. by calling 910/962-3500 or 800/732-3643.
