MEMORANDUM

TO: Media

FROM: Mimi Cunningham

You are cordially invited to attend ceremonies honoring Chancellor Emeritus James R. Leutze with the naming of Leutze Hall at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7 on the south patio of the building facing the Campus Commons. The naming ceremony will be followed by a dessert reception. Dr. Leutze retired as chancellor June 30, 2003, after a distinguished 13-year career at UNCW.

Occupied in August 2001, Lakeside Hall is the university’s newest classroom building. The $8 million, 54,000-square-foot facility houses five departments within the College of Arts and Sciences -- Communication Studies, Film Studies, Foreign Languages and Literatures, Political Science, and Social Work. It also houses a $400,000, 2,600-square-foot media production studio and classroom that opened in August of this year for classroom use as well as use by UNCW-TV.

To enhance the classroom experience, Lakeside Hall features a dynamic collection of interior finishes: colorful floor tile, wall coverings and chair rail. On the first floor, a scenic border of Tuscan ruins runs the length of the building. Wall-mounted cove lighting trays provide and unusual and more pleasing indirect lighting source as well as help to break up the long wall spaces.

We hope you will be able to attend. If you have any questions, please contact me a 910/962-93171.
