Wednesday, November 12, 2003

Wilmington, NC – Programming for the week of November 10, UNCW Community Link, an interactive, public affairs television show speaks with Clancy Thompson of the Child Advocacy Committee and also with Coldwell Banker realtors Jim Spicuza and Nicole Bunch.

H.E. “Hunter” Thompson Jr. sits down with Clancy Thompson to discuss the upcoming State of the State Regarding Children and Youth Conference. This forum will be held November 21 from 7:30 to 11 a.m. in the Wilmington City Chambers. As an advocate for children’s issues, Thompson explained that ChildWatch is a national initiative that began in 1995. Support for ChildWatch is provided by the Covenant for North Carolina’s Children which encompasses over 150 organizations.

Thompson also described the demographics of modern America, stating that only 25 percent of families have children. This number is estimated to decrease to 20 percent by the year 2010.

“The focus of this group is to enhance communication to political officials, the media, non-profit organizations and especially parents, and broaden horizons on topics relating to children,” said Thompson.

Betty Ann Sanders chats with Coldwell Banker Seacoast realtors Jim Spicuza and Nicole Bunch. In this Buyer Beware segment tips for buying and selling a house include the importance of having trust in your realtor. With combined experience of over 24 years, both Spicuza and Bunch offer key information for the average home buyer.

Bunch noted that if you are unsure of a realtor’s experience it is necessary to ask for references. It is also important that a realtor provide their client with properties they will appreciate and find comfortable.

“The biggest thing in real estate is to find out who your agent represents, the buyer or seller. A realtor can guide you through the process,” stated Spicuza.

Representing the Wilmington Star-News, this week’s Editorially Yours segment is provided by Si Cantwell.

UNCW Community Link reaches beyond the television studio to allow citizens to sound off on compelling issues facing Southeastern North Carolina.
