UNCW Jazz Guitar Ensemble Performs

Wilmington, N.C.—The University of North Carolina at Wilmington Department of Music presents the UNCW Jazz Guitar Ensemble in conjunction with the Jazz Lab Band 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 in Kenan Auditorium. The UNCW Jazz Guitar Ensemble, or “Wire Choir,” directed by Robert Russell, is a group performing multiple-guitar arrangements drawn from a wide variety of jazz styles—from swing to bop to contemporary, original compositions. The Jazz Guitar Ensemble will feature selections by John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Bob Russell, Gigi Gryce and James Brown. The UNCW Jazz Lab Band is directed by Christofer Ackerman and will perform the following selections: “All of Me,” “Birdland,” “Killer Joe,” “Blue Monk,” “Mercy, Mercy, Mercy,” among others. The Jazz Lab Band performs a variety of jazz styles and provides UNCW students with performance and improvisational opportunities.



General admission is $5. Admission is $2.50 for UNCW faculty and staff, senior citizens and children under 12. Admission is free for UNCW students with a valid ID.
