David Monahan Speaks at UNCW Film Studies Lecture

WILMINGTON, NC—The University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s Film Studies Department will host a Moviemaker Guest Lecture screening and discussion of “The Evolution of Editing” featuring David Monahan, a filmmaker, at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23 in Bryan Auditorium, Morton Hall, Room 100. Monahan will explain basic editing concepts and the role of the editor in the creative cinematic process. His presentation features screenings of Lumiere Brother’s films, The Great Train Robbery, A Trip To The Moon and portions of Way Down East and Potemkin. All Moviemakers events are free and open to the public.Dave Monahan is an assistant professor in the UNCW Film Studies Department. A graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate Film Division, Monahan has written and directed a number of award-winning short films which have screened at festivals worldwide, including Prime Time, which won the New Line Cinema Award for "Most Original Film.” Working as screenwriter, director and editor, he is currently in post production on his latest film, Monkey Junction.
