UNCW Chancellor Joins Board of Directors of Association

Wilmington, N.C.—University of North Carolina at Wilmington Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo has been named to the board of the Association of American Colleges and Universities.At their annual meeting Jan. 21-23, the AAC&U named six new directors and elected a new slate of officers. Chancellor DePaolo will serve with Elisabeth Zinser, president of Southern Oregon University, who is assuming the role of chair of the board, taking over from Jack Noonan, president emeritus of Bloomfield College.
Chancellor DePaolo will join other board members including, John T. Casteen III, president of the University of Virginia; Robert A. Corrigan, president of San Francisco State University; John DeGioia, president of Georgetown University; Beverly Daniel Tatum, president, Spelman College; and Richard Hersh, senior fellow, Council for Aid to Education.
In addition to new board members, Gary Orfield, professor and director of the Harvard Project on School Desegregation, and Sharon Stephens Brehm, senior advisor to the president of Indiana University were elected directors to the AAC&U.
According to the organization, AAC&U is the leading national association devoted to advancing and strengthening liberal learning for all students, regardless of academic specialization or intended career. Since its founding in 1915, AAC&U’s membership has grown to more than 900 accredited public and private colleges and universities of every type and size.
The AAC&U functions as a catalyst and facilitator, forging links among presidents, administrators and faculty members who are engaged in institutional and curricular planning. Its mission is to reinforce the collective commitment to liberal education at both the national and local levels and to help individual institutions keep the quality of student learning at the core of their work as they evolve to meet new economic and social challenges.
