UNCW Community Link Features UNCW Student Body President; Front Street at 3
Tuesday, January 20, 2004
Wilmington, NC-Programming for the week of January 29, UNCW Community Link, an interactive, public affairs television show, sits down with UNCW Student Body President, Zachary Wynne, concerning the potential increase in tuition rates. Ann Berry and Beth White Steelman came to the studio to talk about the upcoming fundraiser, “Front Street at 3” for WHQR, and Eastern Area Radio Reading Service (EARRS.)H.E. “Hunter” Thompson’s guest this week is Student Body President Zachary Wynne. Wynne discusses a timely topic: the recent increase in tuition. A true advocate for the student body, Wynne feels it is important to look at where the monies for the increase will actually go. Wynne asks “do we really need this money?” The new increase will raise tuition prices by 25% for students over the next two years, equaling $360 per year for in-state students.
Wynne encourages the student body to be more proactive with issues like this that affect everyone. He says that students can and should become involved in the process of negotiation for increases.
This week Betty Anne Sanders sits down with two representatives from WHQR, Ann Berry, and Beth White Steelman to discuss their upcoming fundraiser. Steelman noted that they wanted to create a signature event to be associated with the publicly funded radio station. “Front Street at 3,” starts Friday, February 6 with “A Splendid Oyster Roast” and a shag party at the Blockade Runner in Wrightsville Beach and continues through Saturday, February 7, at different venues in the historic downtown area. Cookbook author Lynne Rosetta Casper is the featured guest for a champagne brunch that will kick start Saturday’s festivities. There will also be six different stages with an eclectic variety of musical performers including jazz, Caribbean music, Celtic music, and more. Tickets are $10-$75, depending on how much of the weekend-long event you plan to attend, some events require reservations, like the champagne brunch, $75. For more information, or to make reservations, contact Ann Berry, (910) 343-1640, or aberry@whqr.org.
