Coffey Joins UNCW Board of Trustees

Wilmington, N.C. – Dr. Terry Coffey of Wilmington joins the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Board of Trustees. He was sworn-in Jan. 29 by Superior Court Judge W. Allen Cobb Jr.Coffey is the president of Murphy-Brown East headquartered in Warsaw, N.C. Previously, he was president of Murphy Farms LLC. He is an adjunct professor at N.C. State University, serves on the board of directors for the American Society of Animal Science and serves as chairman of the N.C. Swine Health Committee for the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Coffey received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia.
Coffey replaces Frank Block who has served the UNCW Board of Trustees for the maximum allowed two consecutive four-year terms.
The Board of Trustees provides oversight to assure that the university performs at a high level of excellence and serves the state in a way that will complement the activities of the other institutions. The UNCW board has 12 members who each serve four-year terms; the 13th trustee is the president of the Student Government Association. The governor appoints four members and the other eight are appointed by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors.
