UNCW Panel Discussion on Brown v. Board of Education

Wilmington, N.C.- The University of North Carolina at Wilmington will have a panel discussion about the impact of Brown v. Board of Education at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 in the King Hall auditorium. The discussion is titled “Brown v. Board of Education: Where Are We Today, and Where Do We Need to Go?” This is part of the university’s semester-long focus on the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education which ended the constitutionality of “separate but equal.” One of the subjects to be discussed is the importance of diversity, not only at the university level, but through all the levels of the nation’s educational system.

The panel consists of Max Allen, special assistant to Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo; Sandra McClain, New Hanover County School Board; Sandra Deshields, professor of specialty studies; Earl Sheridan, UNCW Department of Political Science; and Robert Smith, associate professor at the Watson School of Education. Rhonda Bellamy, news director of WAAV Radio, will facilitate the discussion.

The event will be broadcast on UNCW-TV Cable Channel 5 at various times which will be announced at a later date.
