“Students’ Day at the Board of Governors” Planned to Fight Tuition Increases

WILMINGTON, NC - The UNC Association of Student Governments (UNCASG) has scheduled the ‘Students’ Day at the Board of Governors’ event for March 19, 2004 to coincide with the Board of Governors meeting where tuition increases will be discussed. The students will begin to gather for the event at 9 a.m. and will hold a brief press conference outside of the UNC General Administration building, before going into the meeting. Students from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington will leave from UNCW on Friday, March 19, 2004 at 6:30 a.m. There will be transportation provided by the Student Government Association.

Students will be gathering from 16 campuses across the state for this event in order to come together in protest of the proposed tuition increases. Additionally they will be spending the next two weeks contacting members of the UNC Board of Governors in response to a recent report from the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board, North Carolina ranks first in the nation in percentage of resident undergraduate tuition and fee increases at public universities from 1999-2003.
