Construction is set to begin Monday, March 8, and is expected to be finished by Sept. 27, 2004.The total project is expected to cost $1.2 million and will be financed with non-state funds. Preliminary work including asbestos mitigation was completed in late fall.
Repair and renovation work will focus on replacing the 1931 plumbing systems, install a new electrical system, repair roofing and gutters, and install a new heating and air conditioning system.
Located at 1705 Market St., the early 1900-era Kenan House was deeded to UNCW in 1968 by the heirs of Sarah Graham Kenan. The repair and renovation work will bring this building into compliance with today’s codes and to maintain this magnificent historic structure.
