Public Dialogue on the Afro-Brazilian Condition Held at UNCW April 1

By Rebecca D’Amico, PR InternWilmington, N.C. – The University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures presents “The Afro-Brazilian Condition, Past and Present: A Public Dialogue with Dr. Lesley Feracho” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 1 in Morton Auditorium on the UNCW campus. The event is part of the semester-long Brown v. Board of Education Learning Community program. The event is also sponsored by the North Carolina Humanities Council.
The discussion will feature University of Georgia professor Lesley Feracho and UNCW professors Herbert Berg, Regina Felix, Hal Langfur and Carlos Rodriguez. Feracho and other panelists will engage the audience in a discussion on various aspects of the Afro-Brazilian experiences including race, identity and politics and try to answer the question: Is Brazil really a racial democracy?
The panel discussion and dialogue are funded in part by a $1,070 grant from the North Carolina Humanities Council. The event is free and open to the public. For more information visit www.uncw.edu/brownlc.
