Sam Bush Brings ‘Newgrass’ Sound to UNCW April 17
Monday, March 29, 2004
By Rebecca D’Amico, PR InternWilmington, N.C. - Sam Bush, mandolin master and bluegrass rebel, comes to the University of North Carolina at Wilmington at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 17 in Kenan Auditorium. This is the final performance of UNCW’s 2003-04 Arts in Action Performance Series and is co-presented with Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts.
Bush’s music, sometimes called ‘newgrass,’ blurs the lines between bluegrass, modern country, folk and even rock ‘n’ roll. His release on Sugar Hill Records, Ice Caps: Peaks of Telluride, is a documentation of his important role at the festival and features music culled from performances through the 1990s. Bush’s albums “Bluegrass Mandolin Extravaganza” (with David Grisman, Ronnie McCoury and Ricky Skaggs, among others) and “Short Trip Home” (with Edgar Meyer, Joshua Bell and Mike Marshall) were each nominated for a Grammy, the former for Best Bluegrass Album and the latter for Best Classical Crossover Album.
Tickets are $6 for UNCW students (limited availability) and $25 for all others. Arts in Action season subscribers receive a 10 percent discount. For tickets, call Kenan Auditorium box office at 910/962-3500 or 800/732-3643. Box office hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
