UNCW Announces Sales To The Public Of Surplus Items

Wednesday, March 03, 2004

Wilmington -- Effective March 2004, UNCW is opening a Surplus Store. The first Surplus Store sale will be Friday, March 5, 2004 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Surplus Store is located at the Warehouse Extension on Plyler Street. Parking will be available street side and in the parking lot located behind University Police.

According to Suzanne Helms, director of campus services, “Items available in the store will vary tremendously from sale to sale. But goods may include office furniture, classroom furnishings and computer components as well as furnishings from campus housing and other buildings, food service and maintenance equipment.”

UNCW Surplus Store sales are open to the general public for cash sales only. No checks or credit cards will be accepted. Items will be sold as-is where is, with no warranties. Items cannot be delivered by the university and all goods purchased must be taken away from the warehouse by 3:30 p.m. on the day of the sale.

UNCW’s Surplus Store sales will augment, rather than replace, current surplus outlets, which also include bids through the State Surplus Property Office in Raleigh, Computers for Kids Programs and direct sales to non-profit organizations.

Other University of North Carolina campuses that offer this type of surplus store include North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Subsequent sales will be held April 23, May 14 and June 11. More frequent sales may be scheduled depending on the volume of items available for sale and the public’s interest in the sales according to Helms.
