UNCW Hosts Guest Artist Jazz Trumpeter Ingrid Jenson

By Tiffany Johnson, PR InternWILMINGTON, NC – The University of North Carolina at Wilmington Department of Music hosts trumpeter Ingrid Jenson as the guest artist with the UNCW Big Band at 8 p.m. Friday, March 26 in the Warwick Center Ballroom. The Ingrid Jenson Quintet will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 27 in the Warwick Center Ballroom. Admission for each concert is $5 for general admission and free to UNCW students with a valid ID.
Jenson will also be a guest clinician from noon to 5 p.m. Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 in the Warwick Center Ballroom. She will evaluate participating area jazz bands. The jazz band clinics are free and open to the public.
Jenson was selected by Down Beat as one of the 25 most important improvising musicians of the future. After receiving a number of scholarships and awards, she left her home in Canada to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Her three CD’s for the ENJA label have won her numerous nominations from the Canadian Juno Awards, and her first CD Vernal Fields won Best Mainstream Album of 1995. Her performances as a leader and a featured soloist have taken her around the world. She is currently on the faculty at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore.
