UNCW Hosts Third Annual Psychology Conference

Wilmington, N.C. – The University of North Carolina at Wilmington will host the third annual Regional Sandhills Psychology Conference March 19 and 20. The opening event is at 12 p.m. Friday, March 19 with an introduction by the conference chair, Len Lecci from the UNCW Department of Psychology. Friday’s events will focus on subjects such as eating disorders, the drug Ecstasy and drinking. A UNCW alumnus will discuss his experiences as an animal trainer at Sea World Adventure Parks. Saturday’s events include symposia about folk psychology and family violence, an address on neuropsychology, and clinical supervision theory and practice. Later Julian Keith of UNCW will discuss the cortical memory system and James Johnson of UNCW will talk about racial responses. The keynote speaker, John F. Dovidio from Colgate University, will complete the conference at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 20 with “Can’t We All Just Get Along: The Consequences of Contemporary Racism.”

The event is being sponsored by PSI CHI, the psychology honors society, and is supported by the university’s psychology department and Honors College.

The conference is open to the public for a fee and free for UNCW students. Registration is required. To receive a full conference package, the registration deadline is Monday, March 15.
