UNCW School of Education Poetry Slam Winners to Perform with HBO and Broadway Poets

Wilmington, NC—The winning poets and selected finalists in the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Watson School of Education’s annual Poetry Slam will perform in the “Poetry Flow” show at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 27 in Kenan Auditorium. The doors open at 7 p.m. The selected poets from the Poetry Slam will perform along with poets, such as from HBO’s Def Poetry Jam including Lemon, Derrick “Abyss” Graham, Joel Chmara, Thea Monyee and Vanessa Hidary.

Poetry Flow is sponsored by UNCW’s Association for Campus Entertainment, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision.

Winners of the Poetry Slam are: Jennifer Hamm (first place), Alexandra Vonfange (second place), Jerod Copeland (third place), Allison Hoss (fourth place), Christopher White (fifth place), Lila Cannizzaro (sixth place). Finalists are: Tonja McLaurin, Justin Speaks, Dusty Wilkin, Cappavelli Renegade Black Cherokee and Taylor Davis. In addition, Shaun Mitchell, Marty Most and Alli Parker will also perform.

Tickets are available from the Kenan Auditorium box office. Admission is free for UNCW students, faculty and staff and $5 for the public.
