UNCW Showing Brazilian Film City of God as Part of Brown v. Board of Education Semester

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The University of North Carolina at Wilmington will present the film City of God at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 25 in Morton Hall, Bryan Auditorium. Regina Felix, assistant professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, will introduce the film. The event is free and open to the public. The film is in Portuguese with English subtitles.City of God was nominated in 2003 for Academy Awards in the categories of director, adapted screenplay, cinematography and film editing.
City of God was adapted from a novel by Paulo Lins. The author spent eight years interviewing and collecting data on the organization of drug trafficking in Rio de Janeiro’s slum known as City of God.
This film is being shown as part of the semester-long learning community about the landmark Supreme Court decision Brown v. Board of Education.
