Lecture Series Open to Public: Local Actor Marjorie Megivern Performs “An American Original: Eleanor Roosevelt” Lunch

Wilmington, N.C.—The University of North Carolina at Wilmington is holding a series of free and public series events for the week of the chancellor’s installation, April 12 through 16.Monday, April 12 there will be two lectures. The first, “Shakespeare in the Public Eye” with Lewis Walker, is from 9 to 10 a.m. The second is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and will be about “The Development of Uniquely American Expressions of Islam: The Nation of Islam and the Moorish Science Temple” with Herbert Berg. Both will be in the Madeline Suite, Wagoner Hall.
Michael Wentworth will address “Cultural Images of America in the 60’s” from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 13 in the Madeline Suite, Wagoner Hall.
Local playwright and actor Marjorie Megivern will perform “An American Original: Eleanor Roosevelt” at noon Wednesday, April 14 in Warwick Center Ballroom. Megivern’s performance as one of the most influential first ladies of the 20th century is sponsored by the University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s Division of Public Service and Continuing Studies. This luncheon is open to the public for a cost of $17.
Thursday, April 15, Sherman Hayes, director of Randall Library, will conduct a tour and lecture from 10 to 11 a.m. about “How Your Treasures Become Cultural Treasures.” Chris Fonvielle Jr. will discuss “Wilmington’s Last Stand in the Civil War” from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 15. Both events meet in King Hall, Room 101.
