RE: Groundbreaking Ceremony

You are invited to cover the groundbreaking ceremony for the latest construction project on the UNCW campus – the Technology Support Center. The ceremony will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 29, behind Hoggard Hall.

The 16,424-square-foot, two-story addition to Hoggard Hall will offer state-of-the-art equipment and technology accessibility in a casual, comfortable setting.

On the first floor, it will house the Technology Assistance Center which will have work areas for students, collaboration spaces, individual rooms for one-on-one instruction, demo areas to showcase new technologies and a technology library. A faculty center will give faculty access to production, multi-media and digital editing equipment in a more private and relaxed environment.

The Technology Support Center, located on the second floor of the addition, will feature a hi-tech computer room with all of the centralized servers that support collaborative computing for the campus. This large room will be temperature-controlled and have state-of-the-art equipment. Offices for the computer services staff will be located in this area.

Along with the addition, renovations will be made to the existing structure of Hoggard Hall, one of the university’s three original buildings which opened in 1961.
