UNCW Grad Student Selected as a Finalist in Presidential Management Fellow Program

Wilmington, N.C. – Susan Hamilton, a May 2004 graduate from the Master’s of Public Administration program at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, has been selected for the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) program’s class of 2004, in Washington, D.C. Graduate students are nominated for this prestigious position by a director of their graduate program from around the nation. The program attracts outstanding graduate students from a variety of academic disciplines. As a result of her selection, Hamilton will be eligible for an appointment within a federal agency.

Hamilton graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1994 and began consulting for the State Historic Preservation Office in Raleigh, N.C. regarding National Register nomination preparation. She then accepted a position as the first downtown development director/historic preservation planner for the City of Washington, N.C. Hamilton then became an associate planner for the downtown area in Wilmington where she was promoted to senior planner for Long Range Planning at the city. She became the executive director of Wilmington Downtown, Inc., a 28- year old private nonprofit organization responsible for the economic development of Wilmington’s historic riverfront area. Hamilton began her graduate studies at North Carolina State University in 1997 before relocating to Wilmington where she completed her graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
