Wilmington, N.C.—The University of North Carolina at Wilmington Honors Scholars Program will host the 32nd annual meeting of the Southern Regional Honors Council from Thursday, April 15 through Saturday, April 17 at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside. The Southern Regional Honors Council is composed of over 100 colleges and universities in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Over 350 student registrants will join honors faculty and UNCW Honors Scholars in this three-day conference focusing on a wide range of scholarly topics.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Honors as a River: The Flow of Ideas,” and will include papers and panels given by students and faculty from member schools. Several UNCW students will present their honors project research findings at the meeting. Other UNCW honors students and faculty will discuss the development of innovative honors seminars that incorporate either international travel or service learning around an academic theme. The conference will also feature a special session of papers on the historic Brown v. Board of Education decision. Melton McLaurin, UNCW professor emeritus of history, will deliver the keynote address “Brown v. Board of Education: Consequences and Considerations,” and a group of UNCW faculty will discuss the Brown v. Board of Education Learning Community Semester.
