Friday, April 30, 2004

Wilmington, N.C.—The University of North Carolina at Wilmington and City of Wilmington joint University/Community Relations Task Force meeting is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 5 in the Golden Hawk Room in Trask Coliseum on the campus of UNCW. This meeting will continue their discussion and recommendations on the topic of litter in the neighborhoods. Members of the community are welcome.

The task force, announced by UNCW and the city in January, is examining a variety of quality of life issues related to UNCW's impact on city neighborhoods. It will make recommendations in August to the university and the City Council for action, and ultimately develop partnerships and shared responsibility for managing these issues.

Among the other issues the task force will consider are parking, housing density, late night parties and noise, with the underlying value of how the community preserves a reasonable quality of life for families while allowing students to maintain that same quality of life.

Meetings are also scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. on the following Wednesday, May 19; Wednesday, June 2; Wednesday, June 16; Wednesday, July 7 in the Madeline Suite on the campus of UNCW. These meetings are subject to change and are updated on the City of Wilmington Web site at http://www.ci.wilmington.nc.us/community/office_neighborhoods.htm, along with the minutes of previous task force meetings.
