Wilmington, N.C.- A new edition of the book Mammals of the Carolinas, Virginia and Maryland has been published by UNC Press in paperback. University of North Carolina at Wilmington biology professor, William David Webster is one of the coauthors of the book. Other authors are James F. Parnell of Wilmington and the late Walter C. Briggs, Jr. who were also on the UNCW faculty.
Mammals of the Carolinas, Virginia and Maryland was first published in 1985. “Jim Parnell and I are happy to see the book available in a paperback edition,” said Webster. “It will be easier for people to take in the field with them.” The book is the only guide of its kind, offering detailed descriptions of the 88 terrestrial and 33 marine mammals that are native to the four-state region. The guide also offers pictures allowing both experts and amateurs the opportunity to identify the animals in their area.
