Vosnock heads UNCW Alumni Association Board of Directors

WILMINGTON, NC – Edward J. Vosnock ’71 of Castle Hayne assumed leadership of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Alumni Association, effective July 1.D. Ray Cockrell ’88, ’96M of Wilmington stepped down June 30 after two terms as chair. Under his leadership, the association endowed a new merit
scholarship with the more than $41,000 raised by raffling a 2003 Seahawk VW Beetle, hosted numerous events in North Carolina and the Southeast to introduce Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo to key
business, government, education and alumni leaders and assisted UNCW in exceeding its goal of 10 percent alumni giving. Cockrell will now take the role of past chair and serve out his board term which expires in 2007.
Retired from the Wilmington Fire Department, Vosnock has served in several other board leadership positions including vice chair, treasurer and Internal Relations Committee member. Serving with him on the board of directors are Donis
Noe Smith ’86, ’94M of Wilmington as vice chair and Jason Wheeler ’99, ’03M of Wilmington as treasurer. Morgan H. McKoy ’99 of Wilmington, who was to
serve as secretary, has resigned from the board. Her replacement will be named at the August board meeting.
Mike Wilson ’89M of Wilmington was re-elected to a three-year board term and Robert Warren ’74 of Wilmington, who had served a one-year term as an alternate board member, was elected to the core
board, with a three-year term of office. James E. Jones Jr. ’02M of Wilmington was elected to fulfill the term of McGavock Edwards’96 of Raleigh who resigned from the board. His term of office will end in 2005.
New to the board of directors, serving as alternates with one-year terms, are Dr. Amy Caison ’96 of Morrisville, N.C., Kelly Stevens ’84 of Wilmington and Laura Medlin ’93 of Norcross, Ga. Patrick Gunn ’00, Trudy Maus ’91, Gayle Hayes Lofton ’89, all of Wilmington, and Audrey Porter ’88 of Castle Hayne were re-elected as alternates.
New chapter representatives are Gia Todd Long ’91 of Wilmington, African American Graduates Association; Steve Hailey ’92 of Raleigh, Triangle Alumni Chapter; and Marsha Obremski ’02 of Hampstead, Watson School of Education Chapter.
Retiring from board service are Bekki M. Bennett ’91 of Apex, N.C., as the Triangle chapter representative; Ann L. Grose ’90 of Wilmington as the Watson School of Education Chapter representative, and Karen
Cheek ’89 of Pittsboro, N.C., as the African American Graduates Association Chapter representative.
Individuals retiring from board service are Joanie D. Martin ’91 of Wilmington and Robert Rideout ’95 of Tarboro, N.C.
