Wilmington, N.C.– Barbara Brannon has joined the Department of Creative Writing at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington as lecturer and director of the publishing laboratory.

The publishing laboratory allows students hands-on experience with new technologies in publishing by replicating the functions of a typical book publisher. The lab also assists students in the process of getting their writing published.

At UNCW, Brannon hopes to help faculty tap into the creative potential of publishing, from recognizing the book as an art object to utilizing digital book-building technologies.

Brannon holds a doctorate in history of the book and authorship and a masters in American literature, both from the University of South Carolina, and a bachelor of arts in English and art from Georgia College.

Before coming to UNCW, Brannon served as managing editor of the University of South Carolina Press, where she worked with authors in literature, history, art, religion and philosophy. She has experience in editing and publishing, including book design and illustration, production technologies and marketing and public relations. She is also the author of poetry and non-fiction.
