UNCW Foundation Board Elects New Members

Wilmington, N.C.—The University of North Carolina at Wilmington Foundation Board has elected four new members. Windell Daniels, Jack Fuller, Paul McCombie, and Bill Smith were announced at the board meeting Friday, July 23 at the Center for Marine Science.
Windell Daniels earned his associate degree in general occupations technology from Cape Fear Community College in 1980. He is the owner of United National Tours in Wilmington as well as president of Win-Wilco Industries and Daniels Development Company. Daniels is a member of the Wilmington Housing Authority Commission, the Chamber of Commerce, the Cape Fear Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Bank of Wilmington board of directors, the Community Boys Club, chair of the board of Southeastern Community Credit Union, and the Cape Fear Community College Foundation Board. Among his projects, Daniels purchased the historic 1904 William Hooper School and converted it into housing for senior citizens. He is married to Wilma and they have two sons, Windell Jamar and Euran.
Jack Fuller earned his bachelor’s degree in aeronautics from Miami University, Ohio. He is the CEO of Global Nuclear Fuel, a three-party joint venture company with majority ownership by General Electric. Fuller is a member of Cape Fear Area United Way, the American Cancer Society and the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce Community Growth Planning Committee. He is married to Pamela, and they have two grown children, Jason and Andrea.
Paul McCombie earned his bachelor’s degree from UNCW in 1986. He is the city executive with FNB Southeast Bank of Wilmington. McCombie is a member and past chair of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, and a board member of Cape Fear Hospice and the Boy Scouts of America. He is married to Brenda.
Bill Smith earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Davidson College and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Virginia. He is a former owner of Cape Fear Ford, now retired. Smith is a member of the boards of Cameron Museum of Art, the Davis Healthcare Center and the New Hanover County Museum. He is married to Jean, and they have five grown children.
The all-volunteer UNCW Foundation Board is made up of 27 members elected for a three-year term, renewable for an additional three years. There are four committees within the board, the Finance and Investment Committee, the Long-Range Planning and Nominating Committee, the Program, Development and Outreach Committee and the Executive Committee. The mission of the Foundation Board is to aide the university in receiving and soliciting private donations to help advance educational programs and scholarships for students.
Current officers of the Foundation Board are Steve Diab, chair, attorney with Murchison Taylor & Gibson, LLP, and Russ La Belle, vice chair, CEO of Wilmington Machinery Sales. Other officers include UNCW employees Mary Gornto, vice chancellor for university advancement, executive director; Dr. Ron Core, vice chancellor for business affairs, treasurer; and Marla-Rice Evans, associate vice chancellor for university advancement, secretary.
